Learn-to-Skate at the World Arena Ice Hall!
The World Arena Ice Hall, a U.S Olympic and Paralympic Training Site, is home to many of the nation's finest skaters and coaches. The Learn-to-Skate instructors are highly trained and experienced in teaching all levels of skaters and conducting the Learn to Skate USA Program. Participation in the program will enable skaters of all ages and abilities to learn the fundamentals of figure skating and hockey. The curriculum is designed to be fun, challenging and rewarding for everyone!

Snowplow Sam Levels 1-4
Ages: 3-5 years old
Description: A four level curriculum for our youngest skaters designed to develop preliminary coordination, balance, muscle control and strength necessary to move on skates. Skaters will learn marching, gliding, dipping, swizzles, and stopping while participating in games and activities on the ice.
Class Length: 30 minutes

Ages: 6-15 years old
Description: These first two levels of the fundamental "Basic Skills" emphasize on balance, forward skating, backward skating, gliding and stopping. After passing Basic 2 skaters can choose whether to pursue recreational figure skating or hockey.

Description: The "Basic Eights" introduce the fundamental moves: forward skating, backward skating, stops, crossovers and turns. After completion skaters can advance to more specialized areas of skating.

Description: Every Free Skate level is divided into four different sections: Moves in the field, Dance/Footwork Sequence, Spins and Jumps. Description: You're never too old to Learn to Skate! The Adult curriculum is designed to promote physical fitness and improve balance and coordination while learning proper skating technique. Adult skaters progress at an individual rate while being both challenged and motivated.

Ages: 4-17 years old
Prerequisite: Basic 2
Description: This class emphasizes on proper skating skills that aspiring hockey players need in game situations while wearing full hockey gear. Skaters will develop on-ice balance, coordination, agility, basic skating skills and basic puck control skills.
Required Gear: Helmet with facemask, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, hockey pants, shin guards, hockey socks, hockey skates and stick. Mouth guards are strongly recommended, but not required.
(Please bring a water bottle and arrive early for class. Locker rooms are provided.)

Learn-to-Skate participants are divided into small groups according to skating ability and age. Skaters are evaluated throughout the session and badges are awarded as each level is mastered. For Snowplow Sam Levels 1-3 the Instructor Skater ration will never exceed 6:1 to maximize the learning potential in every class. For all other group classes the ratio will never exceed 10:1.

Participant Information

- One 30-minute skating lesson per week on the day you have requested (Hockey Initiation classes are one hour in duration)
- Seven free public admissions for public skate sessions in the Ice Hall to be used during the Learn to Skate Session (If skaters require the use of rental skates during public sessions they must pay the $3.00 rental fee. Public admissions may be used through Sunday the week the session ends and may not be used after this time.
- Membership in U.S. Figure Skating complete with an official Learn to Skate USA membership card, U.S. Figure Skating Record Book with stickers and Learn to Skate USA logo and membership year patches
- Patch upon completion of the class level
- Evaluation Sheets completed by the skater's instructor(s)

The skaters should dress in layers of comfortable clothing that will not restrict movement. We recommend a hat, gloves and a warm coat. Helmets are strongly encouraged for children under 6 years old. Click here for additional info.

If the level for your skater is not showing up when you register, then the class is full. Please either try the alternate day or sign up for the next session.
Helmets are strongly encouraged for all beginning skaters.

Please Note: There are no refunds for any Learn-to-Skate Sessions once the Session starts. Any refund necessary prior to the start of a session will be subject to a $10 fee.
